Before You Get Started

X Mind is a free service for users to draw mind map diagrams. It includes the feature of planning documentation, visualizing narratives, and organizing information. Now, for a big project, generally, the mind map will have many topics and subtopics. It is better to separate a single concept into more topics and subtopics to easily understand and track the project. So, for that, you should know how to expand topics. Before proceeding forward, ensure these things:

  1. You should already have a mind map diagram ready in your mind or paper.
  2. After having a basic idea about the whole mind map, you can start drawing your mind map in X Mind.
  3. Open the X Mind software on your computer. Log in to your account.

After ensuring these things, you are now ready to expand topics in X Mind.

Expanding Topics in X Mind

  1. After logging in to your account, you will see various types of mind map diagram templates in the template window. choose a simple template.

  2. Then add a main topic by clicking “Enter”. You can make as much as main topic you want by clicking “Enter” again and again.

  3. If you want to draw the new topic on the same side as the previous topic, click on that topic. Then press “Enter”. If you want to add it on the other side, click on the “Central Topic”. Then press “Enter”.

  4. You can also add a topic to any main topic by using the top bar. Select the topic. Then click on the “Topic” option.
  5. After adding all your main topics, now add subtopics to them. You can add a subtopic by pressing “TAB”. Click on the main topic that you want to add a subtopic. Then hit “TAB”.

  6. You can also add a subtopic to any main topic or subtopic. Select the topic, then click on the “Subtopic” options at the top bar.

  7. You can expand your main topic and subtopic by adding notes to them. Select the topic, then click on “Note”.  You can also add a summary to the topic by clicking on the “Summary” option.

  8. Moreover, you can add label, link, image, attachment to the topic. Click on the topic, then select the “Insert” option. A drop-down list of insert options will appear. Choose your required option.

  9. So, using all of these options given above, you can expand topics in your mind map.
  10. You can also make your mind map stylish and presentable. Select the “Format” option. There you will find two options: Style and Map.
  11. In the “Map” option, you can change the theme, structure, background color of the whole mind map. In the “Style” option, you can change the structure, shape, etc. of any selected topic.
